Why Sunnyland Mills' Bulgur is the Best
Why Sunnyland Mills Makes the Best Bulgur Wheat
- Experience -- Sunnyland Mills is the oldest producer of bulgur wheat in the Western Hemisphere, using a
time-tested recipe that originated in the Middle
East. Our company was founded in 1935 and we
specialize in bulgur.
- Sunnyland
is the only full-time bulgur operation in the
U.S.
- All
Natural -- No chemicals, additives or artificial
ingredients.
- White
Wheat -- Sunnyland Mills uses only special
varieties of wheat to make its traditional bulgur
products:
- White
wheat does not contain the tannic acid that
is found in bulgur made with red wheat.
Tannic acid imparts a bitter taste. White
wheat is typically called a "sweet wheat" for
the same reason. Sunnyland Mills bulgur wheat
is guaranteed to be free of any rancid,
bitter or other "off" flavors.
- Bulgur
made from white wheat absorbs water when
soaked or cooked at a uniform rate. This
provides for predictable results and
consistency in preparation of recipes.
- Unique
-- Sunnyland's bulgur can be distinguished from
other bulgur wheat by:
- Color:
Sunnyland's traditional bulgur is light
golden-tan color. Other bulgur made from red
wheat is characteristically brown or
dark.
- Water
absorption: Sunnyland's products absorb water
in a consistent, controlled manner. Other
products absorb at different rates causing
some particles to be mushy and others under
cooked when prepared.
- Particle
size: Sunnyland painstakingly sifts its
bulgur into very uniform particle sizes which
provides consistent water absorption. Our
product looks better than other bulgurs that
have more of a rough cut and include very
small and large particles in the mixture.
- Smell:
Sunnyland's bulgur has a mild, slightly
nut-like smell whereas other bulgurs have a
dense, less delicate profile.
- Food
Safety
- Sunnyland
Mills conducts routine quality control tests
to assure both quality and safety are
maintained. Our active recall plan is in
place should a rare event take place. We have never had even one recall.
- A Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points
(HACCP) plan is in place and is tested
regularly.
- Metal
detection at final packaging and magnets are
used throughout the process.
- We
received a "Superior" rating from the
American Institute of Baking. There is no
higher rating from this prestigious
organization.
- Our
modern plant was built in 1993 and meets all
federal and state food processing
regulations.
- Our
specifications are strictly adhered to in
order to provide the best bulgur in the
world.
- Major
international and national food companies
rely on Sunnyland's quality to meet their
exacting standards.
